Minority disputes Bawumia’s GH¢7b expenditure claim

The Minority Caucus in Parliament says the GH¢7 billion the Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia claims cannot be accounted for is part of the contract database and outstanding commitments and does not constitute conventional definition of arrears.

The said amount, according to the Caucus, is a result of a major initiative on government contracts and expenditure which is part of the GIFMIS Project that the new administration is expected to continue implementing.

The Caucus reminds the NPP that the political campaigns are over and they must concentrate on fulfilling their campaign promises to the people.

The ranking member on the Finance Committee of Parliament and Former Deputy Minister of Finance Cassiel Ato Forson replied the Vice President at a news conference organized by the Minority Caucus in Parliament.

Mr Ato Forson asked the NPP to focus on delivering on its promises and desist from politicking.

The Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee and Deputy Minority Leader, James Klutse Avedzi said with the present accounting system in place there is no way anyone can do payments without scrutiny from the Accountant General, the Bank of Ghana and other agencies.

He described the assertion by Dr Bawumia as political gimmick.
