Fisheries Ministries to sanction trawler operators who flout its directives

The Ministry of Fisheries has warned of severe sanctions including prosecution and a fine of two million dollars against operators of big trawlers who flout the Ministry's directive for a two-month closed season for trawlers beginning tomorrow (Feb. 1). 

According to the Ministry, the decision to declare the ban on fishing for trawlers is to allow the fishes a period to rest and produce more when the ban is over. 

The Deputy Director in Charge of monitoring, control and surveillance at the Ministry of Fisheries, Godfred Baidoo-Tsibu spoke on this directive.
