WACAM calls for stakeholder engagement before implementing new system of distribution of royalties


Executive Associate Secretary of the Wassa Association of Communities Affected by Mining, WACAM, Madam Hannah Owusu Koranteng, has lauded President Akufo-Addo's announcement of an increase in royalties for mining communities. 

Madam Owusu Koranteng however called for a good governance mechanism where the views of the local people in the communities must be sought before decisions and policies are made to directly benefit the people. 

Mrs Owusu Koranteng called on government to do serious analysis of mining activities because a lot of challenges and problems are associated with mining which need evaluation.
