George Weah to lead opposition coalition into October 2017 elections in Liberia Former world football player of the year George Weah will lead a coalition of three political parties in his second attempt to became the president of Liberia in the October 10 elections. Mr. Weah lost to the current President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf in 2005 and in 2011 when he was the running mate of opposition leader Winston Tubman.
