Interior Minister-designate to reform police recruitment process When he took his turn, the Interior Minister designate, Ambrose Dery, said he will champion the overhaul of the police recruitment process. This will involve thorough background checks on recruits in order to ensure that miscreants are prevented from entering the police force. This will curb the many reported cases of police armed robbery and other unprofessional attitudes by officers. Mr Derry said the security agencies would be made to operate within the law bearing in mind the human rights of suspects. He said the situation where suspects are kept in custody above 48 hours will be a thing of the past. Currently appearing before the committee, is the Attorney-General and Justice Minister-designate, Gloria Akuffo. On Monday (Jan. 23), the Committee will also vet Minister-designate for Local Government & Rural Development, Hajia Alima Mahama, Minister-designate for Trade and Industry, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, Minister-designate for Agriculture, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, and Minister-designate for Energy, Boakye Agyarko.
