Former President Rawlings pays tribute to late Asante Queen

Former President Jerry John Rawlings has paid a glowing tribute to the late Asantehemaa, Nana Afua Kobi Serwaah Ampem II.

According to the former president said the late Asantehenemaa  was a good natured person and used her position to protect the dignity of womanhood.

Former President Rawlings recognized her sublime qualities of humility, dignity and sense of respect.

The former President noted that the Queen was “the silent shadow behind the awe-inspiring role of the Asantehene, despite her advanced age.

“Nana Afua Kobi was perceptive and unwavering in her resolve once she had taken a decision” he added.

That trait, he said, endeared her to many and gained her utmost respect among all those who had the good fortune to meet her.

He hailed her strong personality - steeped in tradition she endeavoured to pass on her brand of true Asante discipline and resilience to all she interfaced with.

The late Nana Afua Kobi Serwaah Ampem II was the biological mother of the reigning Asante King, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.  

Installed in 1977, she died at the ripe age of 111, and for four-days her body laid in state for mourners from across the country and beyond to pay their last respects.
