Ghana Parliament to cooperate with Israel for staff building capacity

The Parliament of Ghana is to cooperate with the Israeli government to enhance capacity of staff and MPs' in the discharge of their duties.  

Ghana is also expecting bilateral engagements in areas like agriculture health and environment. 

These came up when the Israeli Ambassador to Ghana Ami Mehl paid a courtesy call on the speaker of parliament. 

The Ambassador said Israel had very good relations with the previous parliament and it will like to build on that for the benefit of the two countries. 

Ambassador Mehl Congratulated Ghana for going through a successful election.

The Speaker of Parliament Prof. Mike Oquaye said Ghana is the oldest friend of Israel in Subsaharan Africa. 

He said Ghana's Parliament will continue to cooperate with Isreal, engage in exchanges in the area of parliamentary practice and other sectors of the economy. 

The Majority Leader Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu also called for the strenthening of relations between the two nations.  

He said Ghana and Israel share some similarity in terms of geopolitics stating that Ghana has a lot to learn from Isreal. 

He said the new government's promise of one village one dam is an area where Israeli assistance will be needed.

The Deputy Minority Leader, James Avedzi also asked for cooperation in the areas of health and agriculture.
