Nigeria expunges 50,000 ghost names from government pay roll

Nigeria has struck off fifty thousand ghost workers from the state payroll this year, saving nearly 630 million Euros.

Spokesman for the Office of the President, Garba Shehu, said 11 people are being probed in this connection and some of them are on trial.
 
Last week, the Nigerian government promised to protect and hand out hefty rewards to whistle blowers who could be entitled to between two- point- five and  five percent of funds recovered from information they provide about corruption.
 
President Buhari has repeatedly accused the government of former president Goodluck Jonathan of a mind-boggling looting of the treasury.
 
Dozens of prominent members of the Jonathan regime, including ministers, politicians and relatives, have been charged with graft.
  
Several senior judges face charges of fraud, bribery and money laundering.
