NDC Sets Up Postmortem Committee In Election Loss


A thirteen member committee headed by former Minister of Finance and Chairman of the National Development Planning Commission, Prof Kwesi Botchway, has been set up to within three months ascertain, review and establish what caused the abysmal performance of the National Democratic Congress, (NDC)  in the 2016 General Elections. 

This will guide the party and its activities and decisions in future dealings.  

Addressing the media in Accra on Thursday, the General Secretary of the party, Johnson Aseidu Nketia said the outcome of the work of the committee will put an end to the blame game trending on social media about who and what caused the defeat of the NDC. 

Flanked by the top hierarchy of the party, general secretary Johnson Aseidu Nketia spelt out the terms of reference for the thirteen member committee 

He also listed other members of the committee 

Mr. Aseidu Nketia asked members and supporters of the party especially those who commentators to be wary of their utterances and desist from pointing accusing fingers at other members. 

He added that the NDC remains steadfast in what he termed challenging times and charged members to unite and support the committee to establish the cause of the party's defeat.

The NDC lost key parliamentary seats to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidates in the December 7, 2016, election.
 
In the presidential polls, Nana Akufo-Addo beat the incumbent, President John Mahama, with more than one million votes, polling more than 53% of total votes casts as against 44.4% for the President.
