Christians Urged To Mark Yuletide In Moderation To Avoid Any Mishaps 

Christians in the Upper East Region today joined the rest of the world to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. 

At exactly 8:30 am this morning almost all the churches in the Bolgatanga municipality were full to capacity. 

Amidst drumming and singing, Christians in the various churches thanked God for preserving and sustaining their lives throughout the year. 

Some were also heard thanking God the just ended peaceful elections.  

Radio Ghana’s news team in the Upper East Region first point of call was at the International Central Gospel Church where the head pastor of the Church Rev. Pastor Rudolf Quannine preached on the theme “Have you received the gift”. 

He explained that Jesus is a special gift God gave to Christians and Christians should endeavor to prevent any obstacle that shall prevent them from receiving the special gift from God which is Jesus Christ. At the Upper Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, the Head Pastor Rev. James K. Awuni, the title of his sermon was “Peace”. 

He explained that it was out of peace and love that God gave his only begotten son to come and die to save us. 

He said Christians should not misinterpret the day set aside to commemorate the birth of Christ but should treat it with the respect it deserves.    

He also urged Christians to show love to the destitute. 

The Catholic Priest of the Our Lady Queen of Africa Parish, Rev. Father George Omonde Oyango, also preached on the theme “Jesus Christ is the Light of the World”. 

He said Jesus Christ is the fullness of the revelation of God and Christians can only communicate to God through Christ. 

At the Fountain Gate Chapel, Rev. Michael Ayikade, also preached on the topic the more excellent way and he read 1 Corinthians 12 : 27 -31 to explain the topic to the congregation. 

He said in the kingdom business God has put his people into categories some are First Apostles, Senior Pastors, Deacons, Prophets and Teachers to enable each and every one execute his or her duties as expected. He said the main him is to win more souls for Christ. 

The last point of call was at the Sacred Heart Cathedral, where Rev. Father Jonas Atarah, also captioned his sermon as “Christmas Joy”. He noted that Christ was born more than 2000 years ago but whenever we celebrate Christmas we experience the joy with which Mary, Joseph and the shepherds did. 

He said it was at the birth of Christ that the first census was conducted signifying that Christ came among us for us to be counted among the blessed of God. 

He said it is therefore imperative to everyone to walk according to the light of Jesus Christ in order to get the light life. He added that true Christmas joy comes when they have truly obeyed Jesus by repentance and continually walk in his light.
