UK congratulates President – Elect Nana Addo


British Prime Minister Theresa May, has congratulated President-elect Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, on his victory in the December 7, 2016 presidential elections.

In a letter to Ghana’s President-Elect, Prime Minister May said “I recognize that it was a hard-fought campaign and that your margin of victory was impressive.”

The letter dated December 13. 2016, said:”I recalled the strong and long-standing relations between both countries, saying she valued it deeply.”

She expressed optimism about the future saying, “The period ahead would offer us a great opportunity to do more for our respective countries.

“I look forward to continuing our excellent cooperation on defence, drugs, crime, and national security, and to working together on challenges such as tackling corruption, alongside our ongoing support to Ghana in areas such as governance, poverty reduction, education and health.

“I hope that we can deepen our economic cooperation.”

Ms. May, after being appointed by Queen Elizabeth II on 13 July 2016,  became only the second female Prime Minister of the United Kingdom after Margaret Thatcher, and the first female British Prime Minister of the 21st century.
