Fuel tanker explodes at Besease causing destruction to property

Explosion of a fuel tanker at Beseasi near Ejisu last night, has led to the destruction of property worth thousands of Ghana Cedis’

A total of six vehicles including the fuel tanker and an articulated truck, have been destroyed beyond repairs while a container store along the road and an electricity wiring system have also been damaged. 

The Ejisu-Juaben Commanding Office of the Police Motor Transport and Traffic Department, ASP George Owusu Aboagye, who confirmed the incident to Radio Ghana in Kumasi, noted that the fire personnel who provided a swift response to the situation, were able to rescue one male stroke patient from a nearby house that also caught fire. 

ASP Aboagye said at about 11 pm yesterday, a fuel tanker believed to be of Burkina Faso origin and was traveling from the Accra direction towards Kumasi caught fire at Ejisu Besease near the Mosque. 

He said the fire was first detected by driver of the articulated truck who alerted his colleague in charge of the fuel tanker. 

He said due to the nature of the fire, the tanker stopped while the driver and mate escaped. ASP Aboagye said it took about four fire tenders from Konongo, and Kumasi three hours to put out the fire.

He commended highly the professionalism exhibited by the fire service personnel who managed the incident. 

Meanwhile, ASP Aboagye says the police are looking for driver of the fuel tanker to assist in their investigation.
