EC Says Thumb Printed Ballot Papers Found In Kumasi Are Fake

The Ashanti Regional Director of the Electoral Commission, Serebour Quaicoe has described as fake, thousands of thumb printed ballot papers found in a hotel room in Kumasi. 

Speaking at a news conference in Kumasi, Mr Quaicoe, said the ballot papers do not have serial numbers and the EC's stamps on them. 

He therefore denied that they belong to the commission.

The Ashanti Regional Police Commander, COP Nathan Kofi Boakye decried the recent phenomenon where political party activists mass up at police stations and use derogatory words on public officials.  

He said the police will continue to restrain itself in the face of extreme provocations.

Meanwhile, the management of the hotel where the bags of the thumb printed ballot papers were found has mentioned one, Andy Owusu, the special Assistant of the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Antwi Boasiako. 

In a release issued Monday, the manager of the Madison Hotel, Evans Nuamah, said the rooms where the items were found, were booked over the weekend on behalf of Mr Boasiako for some investors.  

The statement said Mr Owusu checked in at the hotel with the said bags, accompanied by a fair lady.  

However, Sunday, Mr Boasiako stormed the hotel with the police and retrieved the bags containing the thumb printed ballot papers.
