2016 polls: PPP Parliamentary candidate defects to NDC

The parliamentary candidate of the progressive people's party, PPP for Kwabre East Constituency in Ashanti, Grace Afram, has announced her defection and renunciation of her membership from the party with immediate effect.
 
Also following her footsteps are about 80 young men and women who have also joined the NDC and pledged to help the NDC to attain its target of one million votes in next week's presidential election in the Region. 

At a media briefing to officially announce her defection, Madam Afram noted that her decision has nothing to do with financial or material inducement.

It is based only on certain happenings within the PPP from the National to the Constituency levels.

These include discrimination and unfair practices against some of the party members in the region.

Madam Afram described as not just illegal, a directive by the leadership of the PPP that all its parliamentary candidates take photograph when voting to prove that they, indeed, voted for the party but an affront to democratic principles.
 
The Ashanti Regional Campaign Coordinator of the NDC, Andy Osei Okrah, on behalf of the party accepted Madam Afram and her supporters into the NDC fold and urged them to work hard to win more votes to retain President Mahama and the NDC in government.

When contacted, the Kwabre East District Officer of the EC, Madam Salama Bashel confirmed that Grace Afram is indeed, the Parliamentary Candidate of the PPP for next week's election.

She said however, that her office is not aware of the decision of Madam Afram to withdraw from the contest.
