NPP promises oil exploration in Volta basin if elected The New Patriotic Party, (NPP) has promised to accelerate the exploration of Oil in the Volta basin in order to discover oil in commercial quantity. The party also plan to rebuild a new harbor in Keta. The 2016 Presidential candidate of the NPP, Nana Akufo Addo made the promised at the Party’s regional rally at Aflao in the Volta region. Nana Addo said his “one district on factory” policy will open up industrialization and create more jobs for the youth. He promised to revive the ailing NHIS and repeated his call to restore teacher trainees and nurses’ allowances in full. Nana Addo voiced strong concern about what he describe as the divisive and tribal politics being engaged by the NDC describing it as a sign of desperation. Radio Ghana’s Bright Ntramah who is on the NPP campaign trail reports that, the NPP has performed abysmally in the Volta region since the beginning of multi-party democracy in Ghana. The party’s fortunes keep dwindling with the only seat the NPP was holding has been snatched by the NDC. This trend the NPP is aiming to reverse. As Nana Addo puts it “the NPP wants to turn a new leave between the Volta region and the party. The NPP is targeting 30 percent of popular votes in order to shore up the chances of winning the presidential race. If the thousands of supporters that poured out at the rally ground is anything to go buy, should send a strong signal to those who have completely written of the party’s chances in that region. Former Minister of trade Alan Kyeremanten was impressed with the show of support from the people of the Volta region. The running mate to Akufo Addo, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia said the NDC over the past eight years has more money than any other government but cannot pay allowances for teachers and nurses. Nana Akufo Addo said his NPP government will build landing beach sites as well speed up the process of oil exploitation in the Volta region The next regional rally will be in the upper east region today. The 2016 Campaign Manager of the NPP, Peter Mac Manu has declared operations Eagle Eye in the Volta region to protect the ballots that will be cast in that region. He said the party will not sit down for a single vote to be stolen and called on supporters to assist in policing that ballots. He was speaking at the Volta regional rally of the party. Mr. Mac Manu said the Volta region has over two thousand six hundred polling stations and will need vigilance to protect the ballots. National Youth Organiser Sammy Awuku said the election is about the future of the youth and asked for support to change the NDC government. GBC
