21st October, 2016 The Daily Graphic bemoans the impunity with which some members of the society flout the laws of the country. The paper cites the events in Obuasi last Wednesday when some artisanal miners operating in an abandoned pit belonging to Anglogold Ashanti went on rampage and vandalised property, describing it as nauseating. The paper believes that people who take the law into their own hands must not be made to go scot-free but be made to face the full rigours of the law. It expresses disbelief that no arrests have been made yet by the police, although those who went on the destruction spree did it in the full glare of everybody, including some security personnel, and have even been captured on camera. The paper therefore calls on the leadership of the Association of Artisanal Miners to help the police fish out their members who went on the rampage to help forestall peace. Writing under the heading, "How serious are the political parties?'' the Ghanaian Times says it is quite surprising that officials of political parties which have filed to contest an election can neglect their responsibility to attend the balloting. To the paper, the action simply demonstrates a lack of seriousness in their approach to the entire election process. It asks whether we can entrust the affairs of the nation into the hands of these parties if they continue to display such gross ineptitude in handling issues regarding the election. GBC
