GBC denies allegation of bias towards the ruling NDC

The Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), has described as false, claims by the Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII) that GBC is biased towards the ruling NDC. 

The Chairman of the Political Broadcast Committee of GBC, Ebenezer Ampaabeng, questions the credibility of the GII report saying, GBC during this election period has engaged all political parties on their activities in the run-up to the December seven, polls.  

The GII in its latest report, accused GBC of favoring the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the allocation of airtime and space for political party campaigning ahead of this year’s election.

The anti-corruption campaigners said its report on the abuse of incumbency and electoral corruption revealed the NDC had been allowed much airtime while other political parties have been given little or no opportunity on the various platforms of the state broadcaster.

The 1992 Constitution enjoins state-owned media to give equal access and coverage to all political parties during campaign seasons in the run-up to elections.

But the GII says GBC has not observed the constitutional provision.

However, in an interview with Radio Ghana, Mr. Ampaabeng, insisted that, the state Broadcaster has and will continue to be fair with all political parties.
