Bawku security services march for peace 

Security services operating in Bawku and its environs have embarked on a joint peace march to the sensitise people on the need for peace ahead of the 2016 general elections.

The route march involved personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces, the Ghana Immigration Service, Prisons as well as CEPS and officials from the BNI. 

They displayed placards depicting the relevance of peace before during and after the upcoming polls.

Some selected junior and Senior high schools in the municipality including organized groups took part in the colourful procession jointly organized by the National Peace Council in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior. 

The peace march was later spiced with a band competition by the security services. 

The procession which was done through the principal streets of Bawku to drum home the need for peaceful election come December 7. 

Heads of the security agencies that participated in the joyous occasion assured residents of adequate security before during and after the polls. 

They however called on the support of stakeholders to enable them deliver on their mandate with ease and help preserve the prevailing peace in Bawku. 

They also resolved to clamp down on criminal activities including actions that may disturb the relative peace in the area. 

In a remark, the Bawku Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent, Lovelace Kaletsi Tefutor charged personnel to exhibit a sense of professionalism in the discharge of their official duties so as to win the confidence and trust of the people.

For his part, the Chairman for the Bawku Municipal Security Committee, Issahaku Bukari called on the people to give peace a chance as it would aid in bringing about vibrant socio-economic development to their respective communities. 

Mr. Bukari reminded the people of the consequences of conflict and urged them to foster peace among one another.

Present at the occasion were the Regional Police Commander, DCOP Simon Yao Afeku and the Executive Director of the National Peace Council, Francis Azumah among other high ranking officials from the Ministry of Interior.
