LT Colonel EKT Donkor laid to rest

Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur and a high powered government delegation joined hundreds of mourners for the burial service of the Late LT Colonel EKT Donkor at Badu in the Tain District of the Brong Ahafo Region.

The delegation was made up of the Minister of Defence, Dr Benjamin Kumbuor, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Alhaji Collins Dauda and the Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, Eric Opoku and former Minister of Power and MP for Pru East, Dr. Kwabena Donkor.

Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur in a tribute, said the late Lt Col E K T Donkor was a good friend, brother and colleague whom he had the opportunity to work with from the PNDC to the NDC days.

Vice president Amissah-Arthur described his death as a great loss to the nation and the NDC fraternity. 

The Vice President said he was a very humble and forthright personality who served his nation very well in all the positions that he occupied. 

The Ghana Armed Forces in a tribute said the varied nature of the appointments he held across most of the units, formations and headquarters of the Army is proof of his versatility and tenacity. Also, he was calm, intelligent and very resilient. 

According to the Ghana Armed Forces, Lt Colonel E K T Donkor believed in the principle that everything is possible in life as long as one believed and worked towards it. 

The late Lt. Colonel E K T Donkor was the Chief of Staff during the PNDC era from 1985 to 1989.

He was appointed Deputy Minister of Defence from 1994 to 1999. And later became the substantive Minister of Defence from 1999 to January, 2001.

In 2009, late Lt Col E K T Donkor was appointed Ghana's Ambassador to Cote d'Ivoire until 2013. From 2001, until his demise on July 13, 2016, Colonel E K T Donkor remained a member of the Council of Elders of the ruling NDC. 

He was 77 and left behind a wife and three daughters. 

There will be a thanksgiving service for late Lt. Col EKT Donkor on October 9, 2016, in Tema.
