Security operatives in Bawku march for peace ahead 2016 elections Security operatives in Bawku and its environs had embarked on a joint peace march to sensitize the people on the need for peace ahead of the 2016 general elections. The route march involving personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces, the Ghana Immigration Service, Prisons as well as CEPS and officials from the BNI, saw the display of placards with inscriptions that depicts the relevance of peace before during and after the upcoming polls. A number of students and other organized groups took part in the colorful procession jointly organized by the National Peace Council in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior. Aftermath the procession which was done through the principal streets of Bawku, heads of the security agencies in the area assured residents of adequate security and most importantly the enforcement of law and order. They however called for their unflinching support to enable them deliver on their mandate with ease and help preserve the prevailing peace of Bawku. Heads of the security agencies also resolved to clamp down on criminal activities including actions that may disturb the relative peace in the area. The procession was climaxed by the Bands Competition of Security Agencies, BACOSA. BACOSA which is the entertainment aspect of the day’s activity was being put together by the various band components within the security services to spice up the activity. In a remark, the Bawku Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent, Lovelace Kaletsi Tefutor charged personnel to exhibit a sense of professionalism in the discharge of their official duties so as to win the confidence and trust of the people. The Bawku Divisional Commander noted that peace was a prerequisite for national development and that the security agencies has the onus task to maintain law and order wherever they find themselves. He said it is also the duty of the citizenry to co-exist and foster unity among all divides for the sake of peace and development. In an interview with Radio Ghana's Isaac Asare, Chief Superintendent Tefutor further underscored the need for Ghanaians to respect each others view and opinions irrespective of one’s political, ethnic or religious persuasions. According to him, politics of division is not the way to go, therefore Ghanaians must exercise true brotherliness in the run up to the 2016 general elections because a victory for a particular candidate is a victory for all as Ghanaians. He cautioned persons that have the intention to cause mayhem or foment trouble to rescind from their evil thoughts because the law would not countenance on any wrongdoings before, during and after the elections. For his part, the Chairman for the Bawku Municipal Security Committee, (MUSEC), Issahaku Bukari called on the people to give peace a chance as it will aid in bringing about vibrant socio-economic development to their respective communities.
