Aspiring PMs’ in Ashanti region submit nomination forms 

Aspiring Parliamentary Candidates gearing up to contest in the December elections in the Ashanti region have begun filing their Nominations Forms at the various District offices of the Electoral Commission. 

Reporting from Kumasi, Radio Ghana’s Correspont, Nicholas Osei-Wusu said at the premises of the cluster of District Offices in Kumasi, some of the notable aspiring Parliamentary Candidates mostly from the ruling NDC and the biggest opposition party, NPP, were among the first aspirants to submit their Forms. 

The notable NDC aspiring candidates who submitted their Forms on thursday, were a Deputy Chief of Staff at the Presidency and candidate for Oforikrom, Johny Osei Kofi, a Deputy Minister for Water Resources, Works and Housing, Samuel Yaw Adusei for Bantama, the Managing Director of the State Housing Corporation, Samuel Sarpong for Nhyiaeso, the Majority Chief Whip in Parliament, Alhaji Mubarak Mohammed-Muntaka for Asawase and Madam Monica Nana Yaa Bawua for Kwadaso. 

Among the renowned NPP aspiring candidates who successfully filed their Forms today were Madam Patricia Appiagyei for Asokwa, Alhaji Alidu Seidu for Asawase, as well as Dr. S.K. Nuamah for Kwadaso. 

Adongo Kwasi of the PNC for the Kwadaso Constituency was also able to submit his forms. 

However, the Returning Officer asked him to erase certain inscriptions he had written on the back of his photograph before it would be accepted. 

Unusual of the submission of such Nomination Forms was the virtual absence of the funfair that accompany the aspirants to the EC’s offices as some of the nominees interviewed plaid down on the significance of such activities to the successful or otherwise of the filing of the forms. 

They were also unanimous in their views that completion of the Nomination Forms was very simple and that they would go through the process without let or hindrance. 

One thing that characterized the submission of the Forms was the refusal of the EC officials to take the Filing Fee with an explanation that there a case regarding the amount being charged is a subject of a legal suit at the court.
