CHRAJ Dismisses Bribery Allegation Against President Mahama The Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) has cleared President John Mahama over bribery allegation levelled against him in a ford vehicle gift saga. The youth of the CPP on June 21, 2016, petitioned CHRAJ to probe President Mahama’s acceptance of the Ford Expedition gift from the contractor, Djibiri Kanazoe. The party’s youth wing argues that, the circumstances surrounding the gift and the acceptance of it by President Mahama, contravened the 1992 constitution. In a 78-page report, CHRAJ indicted Mahama, saying he violated the gift policy with regard to his decision to accept the vehicle. However, CHRAJ dismissed the bribery allegations levelled against the President. This is because, upon evidence, the President submitted the Ford Expedition gift to the state. Some sections of Ghanaians expressed anger over reports that President Mahama was given a brand new Ford Expedition in 2012 by a Burkinabe contractor, Djibril Kanazoe who won the bid to construct the $650,000 Ghana Embassy Wall in the Burkina Faso capital, Ouagadougou. Many anti-corruption campaigners slammed the president for what they describe as his disregard for the guidelines on conflict of interest in accepting the vehicle gift. Government in a statement issued by Communications Minister, Edward Omane Boamah said even though the car was received, it had nothing to do with the contract awarded. GBC
