“Stop unrealistic promises”-Uniiq FM panelists tell politicians

Panelists on GBC’s Uniiq FM news analysis programme: “The Issues” have called on presidential candidates to be moderate in their campaign promises. 

They all admitted that some of the campaign promises appear unrealistic. 

They discussed some things they want political party candidates addressed before and after the election. 

The panelists stressed the need for peace in the electioneering period and praised Star Ghana and GBC for championing the course of peace in the country. 

An independent analyst Edmund Kodjie described some of the promises as 'political concert party'. 

He asked presidential candidates to indicate the source of funding to be able to execute what they are promising if they are elected. 

Pastor Edmund Kodjie called on journalists especially hosts of political shows to interrogate the campaign promises and demand answers on the feasibility of such promises.

'Promise less and do more so that people can one day say this party/candidate once promised less but did more'he said. 

He said the NPP promised to turn chop bars into restaurants whiles the NDC promised one time premium for NHIS, and they they both failed.

A representative of the NDC Paapa Bisiew said even though he believes some of the promises are over ambitious, they are doable if the will is there. He nonetheless called for realistic promises.

A representative of the NPP lawyer Kofi Boni said unpredictable shocks from the global front should guide politicians in their campaign promises since they do not have control over such.

He said most of the promises can be fulfilled if politicians stop profligate spending.
