EC Charges Candidates And Agents To Be Conversant With Electoral Laws The Electoral Commission (EC) has cautioned political party candidates and their agents to critically study the electoral laws provided in the 1992 Constitution to avoid unnecessary disturbances during and after the December Elections. Chairperson of the Commission, Mrs. Charlotte Osei said achieving free, fair, credible and transparent elections is not only the responsibility of the EC but also that of candidates and their appointed agents. She said they need to abide by the electoral laws, especially at the polling stations in order to ensure the success of the polls. Mrs. Osei was speaking at the launch of a manual for Presidential and Parliamentary candidates and their agents for this year's elections. Meanwhile, two political parties have expressed dismay at what they describe as the Electoral Commission's indifference in addressing the high cost of filing fees for Presidential and Parliamentary Candidates. Speaking to GBC’s Radio Ghana on the sidelines of an EC event in Accra, the National Organiser of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Desmond Ntow said the Party will not back down on its call for a reduction in the fees which it cannot afford. He said if nothing is done, they will proceed to Court on the matter. The presidential candidate of the Independent People's Party (IPP), Kofi Akpaloo said it is unfair for some parties to endorse the current filing fees, saying the call for reduction requires the solidarity of all parties concerned in order to compel the EC to do something about it.
