Seven distinguished Ghanaians receive awards as part of Founder's day celebration

Seven distinguished Ghanaians have received this year's Black Star Excellence Awards for their exceptional contributions to the fight against imperialist domination and exploitation.
 
The awards instituted by the Socialist Forum of Ghana, forms part of the Founders' day celebration.

The awardees were Professor Akilakpa Sawyerr, Captain Kojo Tsikata, Ambassador Amo- Godfred, Explo Nani- Kofi, G.A Balogun, Charles Heymann and Johnny Hansen.

Speaking at the event, the Minister of Defence, Dr Benjamin Kumbour said it is regrettable that courses in the universities are targeted at the so called job market rather than impacting in students the knowledge to solve problems around them.

He added that the debate about the winner takes all is absurd and must be stopped as politicians are elected to serve and not to amass wealth.
 
The Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, Kwasi Pratt, said though the struggle against capitalism has been half fought, it is prudent to honour the heroes of the struggle to serve as a motivation for future generations to join the socialist struggle.

He said a new Television channel, known as the Pan African Television started running yesterday to propagate the ideals of Dr Kwame Nkrumah and other pan Africanists.
 
Citations and plaques were given to the recipients.

They were also given a set of books which they donated to various institutions of their choice.
