Spread word of global goals to 2 billion people- UN Boss

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is confident that the full details that explain the internationally agreed sustainable development goals, would be spread to two billion people worldwide.

The UN Secretary-General  was speaking at an event to mark the first anniversary of the goals, known as the SDGs.
 
The 17 targets of the SDGs include ending poverty, hunger, tackling climate change and putting the world on a more sustainable development path.

They were agreed one year ago by the 193 Member States of the United Nations.

The Secretary-General of the UN, Ban Ki-moon, who championed the SDGs told a special meeting at the UN that it's more important than ever before to make sure the whole world is informed about the targets.

"Everybody's future is at stake. That is why I want everyone to be informed and engaged. By the end of next year, we aim to have recruited 1 million agents of transformation who will spread the word to 2 billion people. To that end, we are working with Governments, civil society and major players in advertising and the media."

Recent figures from the UN show that globally one person in eight, still lives in extreme poverty, while nearly 800 million are still going hungry.
