2012 CPP Sagnarigu Parliament candidate protests nomination of party's candidate The 2012 CPP parliamentary candidate for the Sagnarigu constituency, Alhassan Suhiyini has registered his displeasure at alleged activities and attitude of the party’s executive at both the constituency and national levels. Mr. Suhiyini said he felt stabbed in the back by his own CPP comrades by what he termed illegally nomination of one Madam Issah Zelia as a parliamentary candidate for the Sagnarigu constituency on the ticket of the CPP for 2016 general elections. At a press conference held in Tamale on Monday, September 19, 2016, Mr. Suhiyini, said the nomination of Madam Zelia was done without the consultation and due regard to the party’s constitution and regulations. According to him, he has been ardent and committed CPP members since 1996 and contested as parliamentary candidate of the party in the last elections. He said he has since been preparing the grounds to represent the CPP in the 2016 elections in the constituency. Mr. Suhiyini therefore considered the imposition of Madam Zelia as shocking and betrayal of trust by some executive members of the party. Mr. Suhiyini alleged that Madam Zelia is a card bearing member of the NDC and former executive of NDC in the constituency. He said Madam Zelia is an assembly woman for Sagnarigu electoral area and has since not resigned her position. He also alleged that Madam Zelia is not a card bearing member of the CPP and has never taken part in any activities involving the CPP in the constituency. Speaking to the constituency chairman, Alfa Sani said the decision was taken to impose Madam Issah Zelia because Mr. Suhiyini did not show interest to contest. According to him, the constituency executives were not happy about the relationship of Mr. Suhiyini and the party executive during the 2012 elections.
