President Mahama lauds Agbogbomefia for re-engineering Ghana’s financial sector


President John Dramani Mahama has commended the Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State and the President of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs, Togbe Afede for his sterling leadership role in the Asogli State and particularly his involvement in re-engineering Ghana’s financial sector. 

He noted that Togbe Afede’s passion to see Ghana grow to higher heights is a worthy course and must be upheld. 

President Mahama made the remark in a speech read on his behalf by the Speaker of Parliament, Edward Doe Adjaho at the 2016 Yam Festival of the Chiefs and people of the Asogli State in Ho. 

The yam festival celebrated by the chiefs and people of the Asogli State is to thank God for a bumper harvest, take stock of the previous year and pray for the blessing of God for the coming year. 

The celebration also seeks to foster unity through forgiveness and reconciliation as well as serve as an annual re-affirmation of allegiance by all chiefs and their subjects in the Asogli State to the Agbogbome stool. 

The festival brought together chiefs and people from the nocks and cronies of the region and beyond including the former king of the Ewes, King Agorkoli. 

President John Dramani Mahama pledged to ensure that the Volta Region receives its fair share of the development cake stressing that he will not take any region for granted. 

He pledged that he will do everything legitimately possible to ensure that nobody disturbs the peace of the nation before during and after the 2016 general elections. 

He warned that anyone who attempts to disturb the peace that the country enjoys will be dealt with by the laws irrespective of his status. 

The Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State, Togbe Afede bemoaned the spate at which politicians both in government and in opposition try to take undue advantage in their campaigns neglecting the free and fair election prescribed by the Constitution. 

He stated that though the constitution enjoins political actors to foster unity, they instead exploit tribal differences which if not tackled will create serious problems in the near future. 

He therefore urged politicians to make tribalism a thing of the past and make the development of the country a priority. 

He also touched on the need to embrace hard work and with selflessness which are vital drives towards development. 

Togbe Afede therefore called on all Ghanaians to help maintain peace before, during and after the November Polls. 

The Volta Regional Minister, Helen Adjoa Ntoso commended the chiefs and queens of the Asogli State for their collaborative roles in preserving peace and unity in the State. 

Madam Ntoso re-assured the region of government’s commitment to give premium attention to the flagship projects in the region and Ho in particular in view of its status. 

She therefore called on all stakeholders to help speed up development. She noted that the security agencies are putting measures in place to provide adequate security as the elections approaches.
