Upper East making strides in hospitality industry

The hospitality industry in the Upper East Region had been identified as one of the fastest growing sectors that has the potential of refining the fortunes of domestic tourism in the region. 

Over the years, local investors, mostly indigenes have given special consideration to the economic viability and the untapped tourism potential of the region to promote the sector.  

Speaking to Radio Ghana, the Regional Director of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Alhaji Ismael Hakeem admitted that the hospitality industry has over time witnessed an exponential growth as service industry in the area of hotels, restaurants, travel and tour as well as guest houses are in a healthy keen competition. 

Alhaji Hakeem was however hopeful that with the emergence of star rated hotels in the region, the prospects of the industry looks promising and called for sustained efforts to give the sector a major boost. 

Alhaji Hakeem was also optimistic that said if the expanded Tamale Airport and the Bolgatanga Regional Health facility are given world class status, the region is poised to become a gateway and one of the preferred tourist destinations in the country.   

Local investors were also encouraged not to waste their hard earned resources on areas that are of no social and economic benefits but rather venture into the hospitality industry. 

This way, the country will be able to rake much revenue, thereby making a significant contribution to the local economy.
