World Literacy Day marked According to statistics from the 2010 Population and Housing Census among others, Ghana's literacy rate has witnessed a marginal increase in recent years. Factors such as improvement in educational infrastructure and qualitative teaching and learning have been cited as being responsible for it. It is against this backdrop that Ghana as a member of the United Nations cannot be left out of the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of World Literacy Day which is observed annually on the 8th of September. GBC’s Radio Ghana caught up with the Country Director of Engage Now Africa, an NGO, Cecilia Amankwah who highlights the significance of the day, as well as the need to double up efforts in promoting education in Ghana in order to reduce poverty.
