Revenue collection agencies blamed for tax evasion The Head of the Centre for Public Accountability at the University of Professional Studies, Albert Kan-Dapaah says poor revenue collection practice makes government to lose millions of income to entities every year. He said, last year six million registered taxpayers were supposed to pay income tax to government, but only two million honoured this obligation, leaving four million others not paying. He was speaking at a forum on “the New Public Financial Management Law" organised by Ghana Integrity Initiative, a local chapter of Transparency International. Mr Dapaah stressed the need to strengthen the country`s tax collection agencies to leave up to their responsibilities. He condemned the practice where some chartered accountants connive with individuals and entities to forge tax returns, and urged revenue authorities to do due diligence and be bold to prosecute the culprits. He asked Ghanaians to report those who evade tax to appropriate agencies for the necessary penal sanctions to be applied. GNA
