EC's decision to engage professionals in 2016 polls lauded The Electoral Commission's announcement of the use of professionals in the 2016 elections has received thumbs up from some quarters. The PRO of the Ghana Bar Association, Mrs Yaa Gyakobo welcomed the idea and said the membership is prepared to help entrench democracy in any capacity. Speaking on GBC’s ‘Behind the News,’ she said members with political background will not be allowed to partake in this all important national exercise. A Senior Research fellow at IDEG, Kwasi Jonah also described the EC's decision as one of the best. In his view, replicating the Nigerian example in Ghana's elections holds high prospects of ensuring transparency. Members of the Ghana Bar Association and Chartered Accountants will from this year be engaged as electoral officers in the presidential and parliamentary elections. This was revealed by the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) Mrs Charlotte Osei at a media encounter in Accra. GBC
