Two alleged GCB bullion van robbery cops remanded

The two policemen who allegedly attacked a bullion van and killed its driver, Corporal Solomon Elvis Mensah and Corporal Daniel Kissi Abrokwah, have been remanded into custody by an Accra District Court. 

The two who were stationed at Donkorkrom and another, Hafisu Mohammed allegedly attacked the bullion van belonging to the Ghana Commercial Bank on the 16th of this month at Mame-Krobo near Tease in the Eastern Region in a robbery attempt. 

In the process, they shot and killed the driver and also wounded another policeman on board the vehicle. 

They have been charged with conspiracy, attempted robbery and murder. 

Presenting the facts to the court, DSP Abraham Annor, said on the day of the incident, the two policemen were on duty at the GN Bank and GCB.

They decided to execute their plan of robbing the billion van which usually came to Donkorkrom to supply money to the bank and discussed same with Hafisu who is a taxi driver. 

The accused police officers allegedly laid ambush at a spot, each armed with an AK 47 rifle.

Hafisu allegedly monitored the movement of the bullion van and signaled the accused policemen, of its arrival. 

On seeing the bullion van, they opened fire killing the driver. The policeman who was escorting the van also opened fire, which led the accused persons to flee but were later arrested.
