Ryan Lochte loses major sponsors after Rio scandal

US Swimmer Ryan Lochte has lost all four of his major sponsorship deals after he and three US team mates made up a claim that they had been robbed at gun point in Rio during the Olympics. 

The swim wear manufacturer Speedo was the first to end its agreement followed by the fashion label Ralph Lauren and two others. 

Speedo, the biggest sponsor of the four, said it cannot condone behaviour that is counter to the values the brand has long stood for. 

Lochte's performance at Rio did not reach the heights of his London triumph, but Forbes estimated his endorsements would still have been between one million dollars and two million dollars.
