Cement Monitoring Committee inaugurated to streamline imports

The Ministry of Trade and Industry has inaugurated a Portland Cement Monitoring Committee to advise the Ministry on matters affecting import of Portland cement and related matters. 

It will also make recommendations to the Minister on the pricing, quantities of portland cements to be imported and local production of portland cement. 

Inaugurating the Committee, the Minister of Trade and Industry, Ekow Spio-Garbrah said many industries have collapsed due to the lack of monitoring of their activities. 

He said if the importation of cement is regulated it will encourage local manufacturers.

The Chief Director of the Ministry of Trade and Industry Dawarnoba Baeka explained the reason behind the setting up of the committee.

The Committee is made up of officials from the Ministries of Trade and Industry and Environment Science and Technology, Ghana Real Estate Developers Association, Ghana Revenue Authority and the Association of Ghana Industries. 

The rest are from the Ghana Standard Authority and Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, among others.
