Dr Yaw Baah elected as new TUC Secretary General Dr Anthony Yaw Baah of the Public Services Workers Union has been elected as the new Secretary General of the TUC at the just-ended 10th Quadrennial Delegates Congress in Kumasi. Dr Yaw Baah takes over from Kofi Asamoah after serving as the Secretary General for two terms since 2008, Dr Yaw Baah was elected unopposed. Until his election, he was the Deputy Secretary General of the TUC for eight years. The elections were supervised by officials of the Electoral Commission led by the Ashanti Regional Director, Serebuor Quaicoo. Nine hundred and ninety delegates took part in the elections. Reverend Richard Kwasi Yeboah was also elected unopposed as the substantive National Chairman after acting in that position for some time. Reverend Yeboah had the nomination of 16 out of the 17 affiliate unions of the TUC with his only contender, Peter Lumor of the Teacher and Educational Workers Union getting the backing of only one union thereby disqualifying him from the contest in line with the election regulations of the movement. The first National Vice Chairmanship slot went unopposed to Alex Nyarko of UNICOF, with Philomena Aba Samsom of the Ghana Mineworkers Union becoming the second National Vice Chairman also unopposed. The Congress elected Joshua Ansah of the Timber and Wood Workers Union who is also the Dean of General Secretaries, as the new Deputy Secretary General of the TUC. Additionally, an 11-member Finance Board was chosen to manage the finances of the TUC. The Board is to elect its own Chairman at a later date. GBC
