Youth groups in Northern Region campaign for peaceful elections Youth groups in the Northern Region are leading the campaign for peaceful elections in December. Over two hundred youth gathered today at the Tamale Sports Stadium to commit themselves to the initiative while called on all stakeholders to play their part in ensuring peace before, during and after the December elections. As part of their commitment to promote youth involvement in a peaceful and credible elections this year, four youth centered organizations organized a forum to deliberate and share ideas on how to channel youthful energies into productive outcomes in the upcoming elections. The groups include the Youth Empowerment for Life, the Center for Active Learning and Integrated Development, Youth Network for Sustainable Development and the National Youth Authority. At the end of the forum, the youth issues a communique calling on government and stakeholders to consider Ghana first in all election related activities. They pledged to use their energies to reduce tension in the Northern Region in particular and the nation in general. The Northern Regional Minister, Abdallah Abubakari, lauded the initiative and commended the organizers for their vision and patriotism. He said the youth are often seen as tools for perpetrating violence and therefore, it is necessary for them to send the signal that they stand for peace. He urged them to carry the message of peace and work with all stakeholders to achieve their goal. GBC
