Political Parties urge supporters to register amid apathy towards re-registration exercise

With just a day to end the re-registration of NHIS card registrants, Radio Ghana has been finding out from political parties how they are sensitising their affected members to the need to patronize the exercise. 

The central theme that runs through their submissions is the issue of apathy towards the exercise. 

The NPP’s Acting General Secretary, John Boadu, said the party has continually used various means to urge its affected members to go and re-register.

The Director of Elections of the CPP, Kwabena Bonfeh, told Radio Ghana that the apathy level is as a result of the cumbersome nature some of the affected persons perceive the process to be. 

He said the party is taking advantage of every opportunity to urge affected persons re-register.

The General Secretary of the NDP, Mohammed Frimpong, said though it is not the main function of political parties to sensitise supporters, the parties have done their best to push that agenda through various means.

For his part, the PPP`s National Secretary, Murtala Mohammed, said apathy on the part of the affected persons is not the best. 

He said much more effort ought to be put in to whip up interest in the electoral process. 

A Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, Koku Anyidoho, noted that the exercise should not have been carried out in the first place.  

He argued that there is no point re-registering because the basis for deletion was not tenable.
