EC Confirms Bawumia Was Verified Outside Exhibition Centre The Electoral Commission, EC has confirmed that Dr Mahamadu Bawumia, the running mate of the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party was verified outside the designated exhibition centre during the just-ended voters register exhibition exercise at Walewale in the Northern Region. A three-member committee was set up by the Northern Regional Directorate of the Electoral Commission to investigate the reports that Dr. Bawumia was verified outside the designated Exhibition Centre at Walewale in the West Mamprusi District. According to the findings the two officers, Ambrose Yobe (Exhibition Officer) and Ms. Mumuni Latifa (Verification Officer) vacated their exhibition centre before the stipulated closing time of 6pm. The report said Dr Bawumia was facilitated by both officers to check his name in the voters register and got verified outside the exhibition centre. A statement signed by Deputy EC Chairperson in charge of Operations, Amadu Sulley said it is only the Commission that has the mandate to designate specific areas as Exhibition Centres. The statement agreed with the Committee that allowing a registered voter to go through the exhibition process outside the designated centre was an irregularity and a breach of the rules. The Commission therefore advised political leaders to study the electoral laws and regulations so that they do not engage in actions that can undermine the electoral process. The Commission urged the public to promptly bring any irregularities to its attention for speedy resolution. The committee was chaired by the Northern Regional Director of the EC, Mr Bruce Ayisi. The two EC officials identified as Ambrose Yobe and Mumuni Latifa who were polling station officers in Walewale, have since been dismissed by the Commission. GBC
