Access to drugs hinder mental healthcare delivery in Northern Ghana Access to essential drugs remains the biggest obstacle to the delivery of mental health care in the Northern, Upper West and Upper East Regions. Mental health medicines which are generally sponsored by government and given to patients free are not forth coming. The Northern Regional Coordinator for Mental Health, Adam Fuseini, revealed this in an interview with Radio Ghana in Tamale where Basic Needs, an NGO, presented $4 million worth of mental health medicines to mental health Institutions in the Northern, Upper East, Upper West and Brong Ahafo Regions. The drugs were donated by Direct Relief through Breast Relief, both NGOs. The Consultant Psychiatrist for the Northern, Upper East and Upper West Regions, Dr. Mohammed Sori, revealed that, besides drugs, the three regions are challenged in terms of personnel. GBC
