Australia's youth justice scandal stirs race controversy A Royal Commission has been set up and expected to start work next month in cases of torture and abuse of juvenile prisoners in Australia. Footages released last week revealed disturbing pictures and videos of prison guards abusing child prisoners In one of the videos, a seventeen year old inmate was seen shackled to a mechanical chair with his wrists bound by straps, along with his ankles and neck. Another video also showed a youth being forcibly stripped by prison guards. Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull wants the report into the scandal published in early 2017. A former Queensland Supreme Court judge, Margaret White, will co-chair the Royal Commission. The global community criticized Australia after the footages went viral with some saying that such a wicked crime should not have happened in one of the world's richest countries. SOURCE: BBC
