EC clarifies issues on transmission of results


The EC says its decision to put in place an electronic results transmission system, ERTS for the 2016 elections was not taken unilaterally. 

A statement signed by the Head of Communications, Eric Dzakpasu said the decision was informed by several reform proposals made by the Committee set up after the 2013 Supreme Court judgment on the Presidential Election Petition. 

The statement said members of the Reform Committee included Deputy Chairperson of the EC ,Georgina Opoku Amankwaa-  Mrs. Rebecca Kabukie Adjalo , Johnson Asiedu Nketiah (NDC) ,Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, (NPP)James Kwabena Bomfeh CPP, Anin-Kofi Addo,  Dr. Ransford Gyampo,IEA,Kwesi Jonah IDEG and  Dr.Franklin Oduro CDD-Ghana.  

The Committee’s proposal on the ERTS recommended that hand-held scanners be used to scan constituency collation forms that contain the polling station results that have been sent electronically and directly to the National Collation Centre. 

The hard copies would be sent physically to the Head Office of the EC.

The statement said the Commission holds the view that the basis for the recommendation by the Reform Committee was valid and deepens the integrity and transparency of the election results collation process. 

The Commission assured the public that no decision has yet been taken on the vendor for the Electronic Results Transmission System (ERTS).

In furtherance of its commitment to transparency, the Commission intends to make the vendor selection process as inclusive as possible.
