Forestry Commission announces ban on  hunting of wild animals 

The Wildlife Division of the Forestry Commission has announced a ban on hunting, capturing and destroying of wild animals with effect from  the first of August  to the first of December.

The ban which is dubbed: ‘the Close Season’ is enshrined in the Wildlife Conservation Regulations. 

This was contained in  a statement  signed by the Executive Director of the Commission Nana Kofi Adu-Nsiah.

The statement says the only animal that can be hunted during the close season is grasscutter but this must be done with a valid license issued by the Chief Wildlife Officer, now referred to as the Executive Director or his representative. 

It said any person who contravenes any provisions of the regulations shall be guilty of an offence and liable on summary conviction to a fine or both. 

The statement appeals to the public particularly hunters to temporarily stop their activities during the close season and  be circumspect during the open season.
