Vigil held for jailed Montie FM trio A vigil was last night held at the forecourt of the community centre in Accra to seek Presidential intervention for clemency for the radio host and two panel members of Montie FM in Accra. Speaker upon speaker called on President Mahama to invoke Article 72 of the Constitution to grant pardon to the three communicators. The Speakers include a Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, Koku Anyidoho, Chairman of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Bernard Monarh, Baah Achemfour of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), James Kobina Bonfeh of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Stephen Atubigah, who also suffered conviction for contempt of court and Owula Mangotey, a regular panel member of Radio Gold. Mr Anyidoho traced the jail sentence to the allegation by the NPP that there were thousands of foreigners in the voters register which has not been proven up till now. For his part, Mr Monarh called for what he called true justice for the Montie trio. He criticised the Supreme Court panelist for the statement that not even President Mahama can control them saying bringing the President`s name into a case he is not connected with is an affront to democracy. Stephen Atubiga urged National Democratic Congress (NDC) faithful not to disturb the peace of the country but use due process for the release of the convicts. Kwabena Bonfeh said President Mahama will not be the first President to have invoked Article 72 to grant Presidential Pardon adding that, all previous Presidents had done that. GBC
