Court frees former MP Eric Amoateng over fake passport The Former MP for Nkoranza North, Eric Amoateng, has been acquitted and discharged by an Accra Circuit Court. Mr Amoateng was tried for possessing forged passport. The Court presided over by Vivian Ellen Amoah said the prosecution did not provide enough evidence to prove that Mr Amoateng was indeed aware that his passport was fake considering that he was in jail at the time the document was prepared. She noted that during the evidence, the prosecution witnesses, which include officials from the Passport Office admitted that they could not tell if a passport is forged by merely looking at it which in effect means that Mr Amoateng had no fore knowledge of the fake document. Mr Amoateng was arrested at the Kotoka International Airport in August 2014 for possessing a forged document after serving a ten year jail term in the US for narcotic related offence. His lawyer, Charles Pouzing, said the acquittal and discharge of Mr Amoateng is a big relief to him having already spent ten years in a US jail. He said his client had always lamented over a possible jail term. GBC
