Africa's external and domestic debts rising - Report Africa's external and domestic debts are said to be on the rise. This is due to reduced export revenue, widening current account deficit and slow economic growth. These are contained in the continent's 2016 Economic Development Report. Launching the report in Accra, a representative from the UN Conference on Trade and Development, UNCTAD, Philip Cobbina, said between 2011-2013, the continent's external debt increased by ten percent from almost eight percent between 2006-2009.
