Muslims mark Eid with prayers

Muslims around the world have celebrated the Eid ul-Fitr with prayers. The Festival marks the end of thirty days of Fasting. 

Eid al-fitr is one of the most important days on the Muslim calendar. The celebrations involve a range of traditions, generally including a gathering of family and friends to pray and eat together. Its significance is purely spiritual.  

Muslims on this day, thank Allah for the strength, will and endurance during the Ramadan period. 

The National Chief Imam Osman Nuhu Sharabutu led prayers at the Black Star square in Accra.  

President John Dramani Mahama speaking at the celebration called on Ghanaians to jealously guard the religious tolerance they are currently enjoying, a situation he said, is rare in other parts of the world.  

Citing the loss of lives and mayhem that goes on due to the activities of terrorists, President Mahama urged parents to develop an interest in the lives of their wards and monitor their activities as terrorist groups such as IS recruit young people especially students.

President Mahama cautioned Muslim Youth and those living in the Zongos not to allow themselves to be used as tools to foment trouble before, during and after the upcoming general election.
