Land Use Bill undergoes second reading

The Land Use and Spatial Planning Bill 2016 before Parliament has undergone second reading on the Floor of the House. 

The Bill which seeks to revise and consolidate the laws on land use and spatial planning, provide for sustainable development of land and human settlements will also establish a Land Use and Spatial Planning Authority. 

Presenting the report of the Committee on Environment, Science and Technology for the second reading the Chairman of the Committee, Simon Edem Asimah said the Bill also seeks to ensure a more sustainable and well-functioning land administration system.

According to the Chairman of the Committee on Environment, Science and Technology, Simon Edem Asimah, the Land Use and Spatial Planning Bill 2016 will provide for sustainable development of land and human settlements through a decentralized planning system, ensure judicious use of land in order to improve quality of life, promote health and safety across the country. 

He said the law will give clear direction to shorten the process of approving permit application and thereby increase the willingness of prospective developers to apply for permit prior to construction.

The Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation Mahama Ayariga moved the motion for the reading of the Bill.
