Calm returns to Krofrom in Kumasi after alleged police brutality Calm has returned to Krofrom, a suburb of Kumasi after some youth in that community engaged in street violence in reaction to an alleged brutality on a young man Thursday night. A 22-year old man whose name was given by an eyewitness as Osei Tawia was allegedly beaten up without any tangible reason at about 10 pm Thursday by a police night patrol team. A food vendor nearby who witnessed the incident said the man was hit several times with guns and shockers while still in handcuff. She said her plea to the policemen was ignored adding that they threw the victim into their police patrol vehicle and sped off. The woman said she has made a formal complaint at the Tafo Nhyiaeso police station saying that she can identify three of the police officers involved. In an interview with Radio Ghana, the Ashanti Regional Police PRO, ASP Yusif Mohammed Tanko, confirmed that initial investigations suggest the young man had bruises on his body but the perpetrators are yet to be identified. This, according to him, is due to conflicting reports about who actually assaulted him and the reasons for the attack. GBC
