One dead, three injured in Chieftaincy dispute at Kato near Berekum

One person was shot dead and three others sustained gunshot wounds at Kato in the Berekum Municipality of Brong Ahafo, in a renewed Chieftaincy clash Morning morning.  

According to the Police, the incident occurred when the Queen-mother, Nana Afia Asreah Ababio attempted to install a new chief against the advice of the Berekum Municipal Security Council, and she was prevented by a mob which shot indiscriminately.

Edmond Opoku Appiah, 34, died of gunshot wounds when he was rushed to the Berekum Holy Family Hospital, but Hamza Mohammed, 39, and Kyereh Yaw Dennis, 18, whose conditions are critical, have been referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi. 

The third victim is currently receiving treatment at the Berekum Hospital. 

The body of Appiah has been deposited at the Berekum Holy Family Hospital pending autopsy.
